You may wish to consider zipping the project and uploading it to the "patches" section of this site, in order to shared it with others, etc.

You could do that and or post a link here so others can download it.

There is a slim chance that I may be able to look at it quickly, if it is easy to install and if it is easy to setup and if I find a little time.

I dont know how to share stuff, so bear with me if I am doing this wrong, BUT,

I took the latest 1.3.0 version and modified it to add some of the features of earlier versions to meet my needs, and what I think others have asked for.

First, I took out the feature allowing for self registration. I needed to allow others to request for registration to my sites, but I need to approve them before they can access any of the "Members Only" sections, so inserted code I received awhile back from MRickardson.

Second, I modified the code so that I can now use the roles management featuers that were part of 1.1.4 and put out via the 1.1.4 extensions. It works like a charm but I now have one problem that I need help with. While I still have the option for "Power Users", whenever a power user signs on, they dont have any abilities to edit any pages.

Also, while the HTML Editor looks better, the features on it seem to be worse in my opinion. The biggest frustration I am having is that with the old FCKeditor, when I clicked the button to add a link, it gave me all kinds of options as to what I wanted to link to, and whether I wanted the link to open in a new page, the current page, the parent, etc, etc, etc. Now with the new editor, when I click the link, all it asks me for is a URL and thats it and doesnt give me any of the options I had before.

Anyhow, if anyone wants to use this version with the features I put back into it I would be happy to share it with you. If anyone knows how, and can help me to get the power user feature working again I would appreciate it. Finally, if anyone knows how I can use a better HTML Editor, or get this one to work better I would appreciate that advice too.

Yes the built in Contact Us Section Control makes them put in their e-mail address and a subject and the content of their question. When they hit submit it gets sent to my webmaster e-mail address with godaddy which then pops to my Outlook and all further correspondence is done directly through me and them that way.

But I think to answer your question, yes they have to put in their emial address which you get when their email comes across to what ever emial you designate for yourself in your settings. I hope that helps.

It is kind of hard to follow. Does all of that allow you to have a contact form that sends an e-mail from their address that you can reply too? From what I have found it looks like I will have to have my contact form have the from address be the godaddy account and have to put their e-mail in the body of the e-mail. Which sucks but is doable.

I added what he has up above to the web.config file, I included this information in the CMS Page, and I went to the administration tool page and set the SMTP settings:

I created a godaddy e-mail address that I monitor to track all of this. Do you have a GoDaddy account dedicated for use with your website? I use webmaster@domain.com and thats were all e-mails go to and from.

I am trying to setup my starter kit as well on Go Daddy. I can't seem to get my SMTP settings right.

If I use relay-hosting I am not able to send e-mails from things other than my own address - This breaks the contact me form.

Your last message seems to send all e-mails your godaddy account. How does your contact form work to send e-mails from the one you specify?

This is just a guess.

I have never upgraded a site-- but, if I had to, then I would do the following...

Make a copy of my old-site and set it up on my local machine.

Download the latest and greatest Mwpsk and set it up as a new-site on my local machine.

Copy the "App_Data" folder in the old-site and paste it over the "App_Data" folder in the new-site and replace when prompted.

Copy custom themes from "App_Themes" in the old-site and put them in the "App_Themes" folder of the new-site.

Test it.

That should be close.

If it works, then I would deploy the new site.

This is just a guess.

Hi I have been using this starter kit since last 1 and a half year. A lot of bugs have been fixed and many new cool features have been added to the kit since the version that I used on the site.

Could you please let me know how to upgrade my site to the latest version without losing the content and other date wise data like the comments, news list etc. on my site.

Love the starter kit. the biggest thing I see is role management. I know there is an add on for it, but couldn't you take that in make it part of the overall project. this way we know it works with each and ever release.

I do not know.

However, as an alternate plan, I suggest that you update to the latest-and-greatest release version (not a beta) of Mwpsk-- why? because this is an open-source project and, as such, older versions of the product genenerally do not get as much attention as the lastest-and-greatest version, etc.

Thanks that looks great, I downloaded 1.1.4 onto my local computer again and loaded the extension and it worked like a charm, unfortunatley though I now have 1.3 as my web based sites, so I am not sure if this will work there or not, do you know?

I am not a coder I am a total neophyte to all of this so I hope I can make this work because it really is a cool and useful tool. Thanks for your assistance Mark.

The Mwpsk does not have such permissions in the standard out of the
box installation.

Check the Mwpsk project home page on Codeplex for addons or extensions
or you might have to code it yourself.

Does anyone know how to create additional user levels beyond just the power user, so that I can create directory specific permissions for certian users and not others. I am a complete neophyte to all of this so if you do I would need some detailed instructions or one on one assistance, thanks.

For example, I just went to this link...

...I unzipped the file...

...I opened the resulting web site in VS.NET...

...I did a "Rebuild Solution" and it compiled fine...

...I searched for "LoginStatus.ascx" and found nothing...

...I searched for "SearchLink.ascx" and found nothing...

...and the site runs fine...

...so I think it may be due to the old version of the Mwpsk site, or due to a customization that is broken, or a similar issue.

Get the new version and you will probably be much better off, etc.
